Is your Covid face mask actually making you sick?!

Washing your mask is key to your health.
Think about where that thing goes!
Falling to the floor of your car
In your car console
The bottom of your purse
In the shopping cart or grocery bag as you leave the store
Cubby at the gym
I mean gross right?
Weekly washing is super important to keep these collected germs away from your mouth BUT.
Is the detergent you are using just as harmful as not washing them at all?
Most conventional laundry detergents contain ingredients that are being shown to create health issues.
A study at the University of Washington tested 6 of the top selling detergents they found:
All six products tested gave off at least one chemical regulated as toxic or hazardous under federal laws, but none of those chemicals was listed on the product labels.
Nearly 100 volatile organic compounds were emitted from these six products, and none were listed on any product label.
Plus, five of the six products emitted one or more carcinogenic ‘hazardous air pollutants,’ which are considered by the Environmental Protection Agency to have no safe exposure level.
Need I say more?
Don’t panic you can still wash your mask safely by avoiding these ingredients in your detergent:
Sodium Laurel sulfate
Fragrance
Parabens
Bleach
Triclosan
I also love using the Thinkdirty app and the EWG Healthy Living database as a resource to looking up brands + products for safety.
